About this blog
The Government Geography Profession is made up of over 1,200 professional geographers which include various job roles in the Analysis Function career framework, and those with a background in geography who apply geographic principles in wider roles. Our expertise covers the full breadth of our discipline and our members are located across the UK. We welcome people to join who are involved in analytical, scientific, policy and operational delivery roles. Now more than ever, geographers are combining increasing quantities of geospatial information with advances in technology to drive new insights on our place in the world. The profession is leading the way in government and the public sector, recognising and encouraging the use of geography and geographical sciences within and across government.
The purpose of this blog is to give our members a platform to share their work and experiences with others who may be interested. This can include topics on, but not limited to, geographic analyses, spatial data science methodologies or geospatial visualisations techniques. Through sharing this information, we hope to excite and inspire others about geography in Government and recognise the impact such work can have to enrich existing and future work.
